TWO ARRESTED DURING TRAFFIC STOP NEAR SUNSET FOR POSSESSION OF WEAPON AND DRUGS

According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “During the evening hours of April 3, 2024, narcotics detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office were conducting criminal patrol in relation to the Project Safe Neighborhood Grant. At approximately 6:30 pm, detectives initiated a traffic stop on I-49 North Service Road near Sunset, Louisiana. Detectives observed the driver and the front seat passenger of a 1999 Silver Buick Lesabre were not were not properly restrained with seat belts.”

During the traffic stop, it was learned that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Tyreke Henry, had an outstanding arrest warrant from St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office for domestic abuse battery on a pregnant victim. This warrant was issued on June 16, 2022.

Raheim Charles was identified as the front seat passenger.

After probable cause was obtained, detectives searched the vehicle and located a black backpack on the front passenger floorboard containing a 300 Blackout AR platform pistol. Detectives also located four additional magazines in the vehicle and a digital scale. Upon returning to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office to process the backpack into evidence, detectives located a second compartment inside the backpack which contained nearly one ounce of crystal methamphetamine.

On April 3, 2024, Tyreke Jaheim Rashad Henry was transferred to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with seat belt violation, possession with intent to distribute schedule II CDS, illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to the outstanding arrest warrant for domestic abuse battery on a pregnant victim.

Raheim Roland Charles was also transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with felon in possession of a firearm, failure to use safety belts, possession with intent to distribute schedule II CDS, illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
